The classic Buche de Noel as the French refer to this awesome holiday dessert.
Also more commonly known as the Yule Log here in the United States and England; it is a Christmas tradition not only to display the Yule Log Cake for dessert but also to burn the real yule log on the fire!
I suppose if your cake comes out a flop you can pass it off as tinder for the fireplace and no one will be the wiser!
There will be no failures here at Gretchen’s bakery! I will show you how simple it is to make this stunning centerpiece for your holiday table with a simple technique called Building On Recipes
All you have to do is gather your base recipes ahead of time and it will be smooth sailing from there.
I always use the Chocolate Roulade for my cake roll, but there are no rules that say you cannot use a Vanilla Roulade! Just replace the cocoa powder in that recipe with an equal amount of flour, add some vanilla extract and voila!
My Nutella Mousse made it’s debut this year here in the Yule Log, since I usually use a Mocha Buttercream filling, but this time I decided to change it up! I am so glad it did!
Ganache for the icing to simulate the effect of the tree bark and Meringue Mushrooms to tie it all together!
(And yes…. I actually FORGOT the Meringue Mushrooms! Can you believe it!? I cannot~ But YOU WILL NOT! Because you will be way more organized that even me this time!)
So follow along in the recipe below with gathering your Mise en Place and then meet me back at the video for the final assembly!
