Valentines Day Desserts

I don’t make a habit of going around tooting my own horn, BUT you know you can’t go wrong with Valentine’s Day desserts from Gretchen’s Bakery!

If he or she hasn’t figured out yet that you are in love yet, they will know it once they are done tasting any one of these creations you decide to go with!

So here on one neat page I tried to make it easy for you to decide.

  1. Hi Gretchen
This has nothing to do with baking but I have a question I hope you can help me with. I’m just a home baker but I have been fortunate to purchase many cake pans along the way. I keep them in a few boxes. It never fails if a cake calls for an 8″ pan, I pull out a 9″! I then have to go back to the boxes and find the correct size . Can I write in marker the size on the bottom of the pans or do you have a better idea? Help! I hate looking for a cake pan.

  2. I know this may slightly off topic but how do I get my cupcakes to dome. Some say rest batter for a hour and others say place in 425 degree oven for 6 to 9 mins and then lower temp. to 350 for 6 to 10 mins. What do you say?
    HELP!!!

    1. I say it depends on the recipe you are using. Most creaming (butter) recipes will dome, whereas foamed egg recipes will not CLICK HERE FOR MORE AND CLICK HERE
Leaving certain recipes on the counter for an hour is not a great idea “for SOME recipes”
SO to use that as a general rule of thumb not great advice CLICK HERE FOR MORE
I am in the habit of 375F for first 10 minutes to help the process .

I KNOW I have to write a blog post specific to this questions, its on the list! LOL

  3. Gretchen, your recipes are to die for. What ever I’ve tried out just too awesome. Keep it up dear, and I keep trying your recipes!!!!

  4. Hi Gretchen, I have been a big fan for some time and I have a question, please. I have read you recipes for petit fours. I was thinking that you have a video on how to make them. Would you please point me in the appropriate direction.

    Thank you

  5. Hi Gretchen…I left you a message on FB but you said to leave it here…Gretchen have you ever heard of Stock’s pound cake out of Philly?…went to a super bowl party and someone there had brought this pound cake…OMG this stuff is beyond amazing! I have made so far 3 pound cakes and not one could replicate the texture of this cake…it has no dome top, very dense, but not heavy, very tight crumb, I swear it is pound cake crack, i am totally obsessed with it…thee only thing I can come up with that it reminds me of is since you are a Jersey girl, do you remember the A&P pound cake loaf, with the flat top and that little brown top (that you could pull off!!) it reminds me of that…Stock’s bakery is a German bakery in Philly…just wondering if you have anything in your arsenal like this…please share if you do!

    1. Hi Maria I saw your facebook message and No I have no heard of that cake, although it could be named that just from that particular bakery. I have heard of the Philly Fluff cake which I wonder is the same (or similar) recipe.
I do not have that recipe though, so I am afraid I wont be much help. I do have pound cake recipes and there are also many on the net. The one I will suggest you look for though is one that is made with cream cheese and butter
